New Delhi, March 17 (IANS) An alleged conman was arrested for duping a woman by faking as an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and as DCP, north Delhi district, on the pretext of getting her a job in the Delhi Police, said an official here on Sunday.

Raj Malhotra (29), a resident of Kirari, was arrested on Friday from his residence and a police uniform, a fake name plate with ACP written, were also found from his possession, the police said.

“Few months ago, Malhotra met the victim at a gym and introduced himself as an IPS officer officiating as DCP north with the Delhi Police,” Deputy Commissioner of Police S.D. Mishra said.

“Some days later, he offered help to victim (24) by claiming he had a special quota through which he will get her placed with the Delhi Police. He took Rs 1 lakh from her for it. He fooled the victim saying her appointment letter will be delivered at her residence,” Mishra said.

“When the victim kept inquiring about job, the accused one day met her donning IPS dress to gain her trust. The victim became suspicious as the name plate was showing ACP and stars on his shoulders the DCP rank. She later filed a complaint with the Aman Vihar Police Station,” the DCP said.

“During investigation, Malhotra was found to be a fake IPS officer and was arrested,” he said.

He was also arrested earlier in 2017 when he duped another woman through the same modus operandi, the officer added.

“The accused disclosed he was a fond of wearing police uniform and always wanted to work with the police,” Mishra said.
