Fake Marriage scam busted; 1 Indian man & 27 Thai women arrested

Hyderabad: Man held for extorting and sexually harassing Tinder match

Following a long investigation, Thailand police arrested 1 Indian national and 27 Thai women for indulging in the fake marriage scam that enables Indians to get residential visas in the country.

35-year-old man Wikrom Layerhi, the Indian man who got arrested was the main broker of the fake marriage scam wherein he used to arrange Thai women to register the fake marriage with Indian nationals. It was reported that the women were hired for 8,000 – 10,000 bahts each and also the women never stayed with the Indians with whom their fake marriage was registered.

One out of the 27 women is reported to be over 70 years and also had a family, including children.

The Thailand police have found 127 men with unlawfully obtained residential visas and out of which 36 of them are deported.

In December, 10 Indian men and 24 Thai women were arrested in Thailand for their alleged involvement in fake marriages aimed at extending spousal visas in the country.
