Finland’s Prime Minister Sanna Marin married her longtime partner Markus Raikkonen, a former Finnish footballer on Saturday in an intimate affair. The announcement was made by the couple on Sunday.
The 34-year-old PM shared her wedding pictures on Instagram account, showing the couple posing together while holding a bunch of white flowers.
“I am happy and grateful that I get to share my life with the man I love,” she wrote.
Marin said the couple had “shared joys and sorrows”, adding: “Thank you for being by my side.”
“We’ve lived together in our youth, grown up together, and become parents to our dear daughter. Thank you for being by my side,” the prime minister wrote to her new husband.
According to CBS News, the wedding, which took place at their official residence in Helsinki was attended by just 40 close friends and families.
Marin and Raikkonen have been together for 16 years and they have a two-year-old daughter.
The Finland PM is said to be the world’s youngest serving head of government–a distinction she lost a few weeks later with the return to power of Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, who turns 34 later this month.
Recently, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen got married on July 15 after repeatedly rescheduling the ceremony, first due to elections, then the coronavirus pandemic, and finally because of a European Union summit.
