FIR registered against UrbanClap CEO, VP, manager after technician, nephew die due to AC blast

A day after a technician and his aide registered with UrbanClap died in an AC compressor blast while servicing, an FIR has been filed against the chief executive officer (CEO), vice president (VP) and senior manager of online services portal.

Gurugram police registered the FIR under IPC sections 304 (II) (act done with knowledge that is likely to cause death but without any intention to cause death or to cause bodily injury), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 34 (common intention), on the basis of a complaint by the tenant of the apartment where the incident occurred.

The deceased have been identified as Ravi, 30 and his nephew, Mahesh, 25, both of Rajasthan. Ravi was registered with UrbanClap.

On May 2, Ravi and Mahesh died after an air-conditioner they were servicing in Sare Homes, a condominium in Gurugram’s Sector 92, exploded. The technicians were refilling the gas in the AC and conducting routine servicing when the accident took place.

The complainant Basudev Shaha is undergoing medical treatment at a private hospital in Manesar for injuries incurred as a result of the blast. He was brought in with splinter injuries to his face and arms.

In the wake of the tragic incident, Urban Clap released a statement expressing their condolences for the family and said that the company is with the families of the victims “and are committed to supporting them in this difficult time”. However, the families of the victims are yet to issue a statement.
