Fisherman found 78kg crystal methamphetamine worth Rs 100 crore in Tamil Nadu

A fisherman in Tamil Nadu found a crystal meth in his barrel worth Rs 100 crore which he thought was a barrel of refined tea.

The Mamallapuram fishermen broke open the barrel which had several green sachets of refined tea with Mandarin and English markings. On opening the packets, they found white powder inside them, They then alerted the police.

Police seized 78 kilograms of the substance and gave it for examination, and found out that the substance inside the packets is crystal methamphetamine.

Police suspect that the barrel was a part of a consignment that landed along the coast by drug smugglers operating in southeast Asian countries.

Police who seized the contraband said it was packed in 1kg plastic bags with English and Mandarin writing that labeled it “refined Chinese Tea.”
