Florida Tax-Free Event: Shopping in Florida changed a lot over Memorial Weekend, but there is more to learn as the year progresses.

The United States observes Memorial Day on the last Monday of May as a federal holiday to honor and remember those who have died in military service.

As a result of Governor Ron DeSantis’ Freedom Month Sales Tax Holiday, many products will be discounted this summer.

Government help and changes in tax rules can also result from natural disasters. The Atlantic Hurricane Season begins on June 1.

There is no sales tax on batteries, coolers, flashlights, weather radios, generators, and pet supplies in Florida from June 1 to June 14.

To qualify for the sales tax exemption, items can be purchased at most stores or online.

Check the expiration dates on your hurricane supplies before shopping, including:

  • Food
  • Baby Formula
  • Pet food
