Former East Bengal and Mohun Bagan defender R Dhanarajan collapsed and passed away on the field after  reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest in Kerala on Sunday night.

The 39-year-old player collapsed during a football match of the All India Sevens Football Tournament at Perinthalmanna.

“We noticed Dhanarajan falling and rushed towards him. He was taken to hospital, but all hopes were over by then. Doctors said our friend died due to cardiac arrest,” Radhakrishnan’s friend Ameerudheen K was quoted as saying by reports.

Dhanrajan was part of the Perinthalmanna football club and was playing against Sastha Medicals Thrissur. Besides being part of Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, he has also represented Mohammedan Sporting from 2012-14.
