Former Bihar minister Parveen Amanullah passed away on Sunday, she was 63. Praveen Amanullah was under medical treatment in Delhi NCR.

The family relocated from Patna to Delhi for medical care. She also sought treatment in America and recovered there. Her health had been declining for two to three days. She passed away at 7 PM today.

She was the wife of IAS Afzal Amanullah and the daughter of former MP and diplomat Syed Shahabuddin of Kishanganj.

Prior to entering politics, she was well-known for her activism, particularly her use of the 2005 Right to Information Act to expose the widespread apathy in government institutions.

She was elected an MLA in 2010 on a JDU ticket from the Sahebpur Kamal assembly constituency in the Begusarai district. She received 46,391 votes in this election, defeating Shrinarayan Yadav of the RjD by 11,111. After that, she was made a minister in the Nitish Kumar cabinet and was in charge of Social Welfare Ministery.

Prior to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, she left the JDU and the Nitish Cabinet and joined the Aam Aadmi Party. In order to challenge the then-BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha, the Aam Aadmi Party fielded Praveen Amanullah from Patna Sahib. She received only 16,381 votes in this race.

Praveen Amanullah attended Miranda House College at Delhi University. She participated actively in the RTI movement and submitted more than 600 RTI applications while serving as the convenor of the Bihar Right to Information Forum (BRIM).
