Former IAF sergeant gets death penalty for colleague’s murder

Ex Indian Air Force Sergeant Sulesh Kumar has announced death penalty on Friday for killing his colleague. District and session judge Kanwaljit Singh Bajwa sentenced Kumar to death for the murder of 27-year-old corporal Vipin Shukla of UP in Feb 2017. They were both posted at Bhisiana air base in Bathinda.

Sulesh’s wife Anuradha Patel was sentenced to a five-year jail term in the same case. The third accused who is brother in law of Sulesh was employed in the merchant navy and is absconding.

Reportedly, Kumar was angry with his colleague due to his extra-marital relationship with his wife Anuradha. Sulesh with the help of his wife and brother in law murdered Vipin on Feb 8 night and his body pieces were recovered from his residence 10 days later in 16 plastic bags and were kept in an almirah and a refrigerator.

The police got to know after Vipin’s wife filed a complaint at Balluana Police post on Feb 9 that her husband is missing. Shukla was married and had two children. He was posted in Bhisiana in 2014 and was living at the base alone. According to the police, he had an affair with Kumar’s wife Anuradha and she had become pregnant. When Vipin’s wife came to stay with her, he refused to marry Anuradha and in anger, she disclosed her affair to his husband, who in turn killed Vipin.

A case was registered against them under section 302 (murder), 201 (disappearing evidence) and 34 (act by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC.
