Odisha: Former Rajya Sabha MP Baishnab Charan Parida passes away

Former Rajya Sabha parliamentarian Baishnab Charan Parida passed away at the age of 77 on Thursday morning at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar of Odisha.  Parida was undergoing treatment for many days after he was diagnosed with cancer.

In 1960 Parida started his political career and joined Communist Party of India and 1992, he took the membership of Indian National Congress. However, due to his differences with the then State party leadership, he quit the party and joined the Samajwadi Party in 1999 as its State President. In 2008 Parida joined the BJD and further he was elected to Rajya Sabha in July 2010 and his term ended on July 1, 2016.

Apart from the politician, Baishnab Charan Parida was a well-known columnist and social activist. Parida had been fighting to bring the Odisha Official Language Act, 1954.
