Former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA Kunti Devi from Gaya’s Atri Vidhan Sabha has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the Sumirak Yadav murder case.

An additional district court in Bihar’s Gaya passed the sentence on Monday.

On January 19, Gaya ADJ-III Sangam Singh held former legislator Kunti Devi guilty in the eight-year-old murder case. The judge had also served a show-cause notice to Daudnagar sub-jail superintendent for his failure to produce the RJD leader in court.

A block level leader of the Janata Dal (United), Sumarik Yadav was killed at Neemchak Bathani bazar in Bihar’s Gaya on February 26, 2013. A preliminary probe had revealed that Yadav’s murder the outcome of a political rivalry.

JD(U) leader Sumarik Yadav was returning home after locking up the party office when he was beaten to death by unknown persons.
