Amaravati, Oct 14 (IANS) Four mandals in Andhra Pradesh received more than 100 mm rainfall on Wednesday due to the after effects of the deep depression which has already crossed the state’s coast.
The Anasagaram High School in Nandigama mandal in Krishna district registered 134 mm rainfall, followed by Upper Bathupuram in Sompeta mandal of Srikakulam (105.8 mm).
In West Godavari district, Penumantra mandal logged 103.5 mm rainfall, while the Gopalapuram village in Rajam mandal in Srikakulam registered 100.5 mm rainfall.
Likewise, the head water works area in Palakollu witnessed a rainfall of 99.8 mm.
Nearly 6 lakh cusecs of flood waters flowed into the Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada by Wednesday, prompting authorities to issue a level two warning.
In addition to Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts, the government has also extended search and relief operation in West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur districts.
In West Godavari, 12 mandals and 21 habitations were affected by the heavy rains. Two State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been sent to Eluru and Nidadavolu. As many as 260 people were evacuated in the district.
A relief camp each was setup at Bhimavaram, Tanuku, Chittapudi and Jangareddygudem. Similarly, 14 health and sanitation camps were organised.
The excessive rains damaged 61 houses in the district and 65 more were inundated.
Likewise, 3,691 hectares of crops were affected, including 100 hectares of horticultural areas.
Because of the rains, 10 rural water supply (RWS) works were damaged, causing a loss of Rs 9 lakh. With respect to the electric department, four 33 kv feeders and 15 feeders of capacity 11 kv were affected.
In Krishna district, 24 mandals were affected, prompting one SDRF team to be deployed at the disposal of the district collector.
In the district, 98 people were evacuated and one relief camp was established in Musunure. Helping the affected people, the government distributed 200 food packets and 400 water sachets and bottles.
As many as 72 houses were damaged, along with 9,869 hectares of paddy, cotton and black gram crops. Another 1,059 hectares of chilli, turmeric and banana crops also bore the brunt of the rains.
Nearly 109 stretches of road, amounting to 419 km, were damaged.
In Guntur district, one person died in Gurjala mandal due to a drowning incident. Two relief camps were set up at Gurjala and Amaravati.
The government has instructed the district collectors to operate control rooms round the clock, continuing the directives issued on Tuesday.
It also directed them to maintain adequate stocks of medicines, keep generators on standby in the event of power breakdown and send daily situation and damage reports.
