New Delhi, May 12 (IANS) In the political season where abuses and invectives on social media platforms and public rallies have hit a new low (one can’t forget Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan’s derogatory comment against BJP’s Rampur candidate Jayaprada), a few leaders have kept their humorous side alive, posting messages in the lighter vein, enough to tickle your funny bones.
Take the case of Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra who made her Twitter debut only in February this year.
Speaking at a roadshow in the Capital, she said BJP’s situation now was “like those of children who haven’t done their homework and tell their teacher, “Kya karoon, Nehruji ne mera parcha le liya aur chhupa diya, Indiraji ne mere homework ki kashti banake baha diya’ (What can I do, Nehruji took my homework and hid it. Indiraj made paper boat out of my homework)”.
Priyanka Chaturvedi, former Congress spokesperson and current Shiv Sena candidate, took a hilarious jibe at BJP minister Smriti Irani who is contesting against Congress President Rahul Gandhi from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.
“A new serial is going to come – Kyunki Mantri Bhi Kabhi Graduate Thi. Its opening line will be ‘Qualifications ke bhi roop badalte hain, naye-naye sanche mein dhalte hain, ek degree aati hai, ek degree jaati hai, bante affidavit naye hain. (Qualification versions also change, get moulded into new forms, one degree comes and the other goes, new affidavits get created),” Chaturvedi had said.
Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, known for his dramatic metaphors, compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a “bride”.
“Modi Ji uss dulhan ki tarah hain jo roti kum baelti hai aur chudiyaan zyada khankati hai taaki mohalle walon ko yeh pata chale ki woh kaam kar rahi hai. Bas yahi hua hai Modi sarkaar mein (Modiji is like the bride who works less in the kitchen but makes more noise so that neighbours think she is always working),” Sidhu said during a meeting in Indore on Saturday.
In an earlier tweet, Sidhu said: Smriti Irani was BA pass in 2014 and in 2019 elections, she cleared higher secondary (12th standard). “Mujhe lagta hai 2024 ke chunav se pahle KG main admission le hi lengi (I think she will take admission in KG standard before 2024 polls).”
Taking a dig at film actor-turned politician Sunny Deol, this is what Aam Aadmi party (AAP) leader Kumar Vishwas wrote on Twitter (in Hindi): “The way in which Dharmendra ji in Bikaner and Hema Malini ji in Mathura strengthened our democracy, in the same way like his last movie ‘Bhai Sahab’, Sunny Deol has joined the poll fray from Gurdaspur to strengthen it”.
When actor Payal Rohatgi pulled up actor Swara Bhaskar for supporting AAP, calling her aunty, Bhaskar replied: “Didi, paani pee lo” (Sister, have a glass of water).
Mocking BJP’s “Main bhi chowkidar” campaign, Congress leader P. Chidambaram had tweeted: “Main bhi chowkidhar because the chowkidhar I had appointed is missing. I am told he has gone looking for achhe din”.
