Significance of Ganadhipa Sankashti Chaturthi

According to a legend associated with Sankashti Chaturthi, Lord Ganesha was pleased by Krishna Chaturthi, who had performed intense penance to seek his blessings and a boon. The Lord appeared before Krishna Chaturthi at the time of Chandrodaya (Moonrise) to give his blessings and the boon. On seeing Lord Ganesha, Krishna Chaturthi wished for a blessing that granted her an eternal association with Lord Ganesha. Moreover, she wished for a boon that would give relief from trouble to all those who would pray to Lord Ganesha by keeping a fast on Krishna Chaturthi. And since Lord Ganesha gave her a darshan at the time of the moonrise, devotees break their fast after sighting the Moon and offering their prayers to the Moon God. Hence, Moonrise timing and Sankashti Vrat are of great significance.
