German Language Day 2023: It is one of the longest German words and something to contemplate on September 9, which is National German Language Day.
Non-German speakers may find “Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz” to be incomprehensible. In actuality, this word (whose pronunciation we will not attempt) is now obsolete. It translates as the “Beef Labeling Delegation Monitoring Act.” And yet, we lament its loss today.
German is the vernacular of the poets Bertolt Brecht, Rainer Maria Rilke, and the classic cinema of the Weimar Republic. The German Language Association (VDS) created this day 17 years ago to promote the language and encourage more people to acquire it, thereby helping to revive the use of German around the world.
DAY OF THE GERMAN LANGUAGE ACTIVITIES
Anybody speak German?
Learning German can be a lot of fun, particularly if you plan to use it during a European vacation. But if you cannot travel to Germany, there are German bakeries and bookstores in the United States where you can practice what you’ve learned.
Read a German masterpiece
Even a translation into English will suffice. Because you will learn more the more you read. National German Language Day is also an excellent time to view classic German horror films such as “Nosferatu” and “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.”
Enjoy a beverage. The toast!
Okay, so technically this is not Oktoberfest. As far as we are aware, however, everything German calls for a cool beer. And a succulent bratwurst!

German Language Day 2023: FACTS
Chinese (including both Mandarin and Cantonese), English, Hindi-Urdu, Spanish, Russian, and German are the most widely-spoken languages in the globe, in descending order. Additionally, it is the most spoken language in Europe. Best regards!
Goethe, Schiller, Brecht, Marx, and Nietzsche were all proficient in the German language.
Both languages belong to the West Germanic family. German and English cultures have significantly influenced one another, and there’s even a bit of sibling rivalry!
Feminine, masculine, and neuter. Some languages, such as Polish, have six grammatical genders, if that is difficult to comprehend (and say)!
This phrase literally translates to “that is not your beer.” However, the true meaning is “this is none of your business, stay out!”
