Mumbai, Feb 14 (IANS) Focusing on 11 million girl students, the Go Girl Go campaign is all set to “hunt for the fastest girl in Maharashtra” by conducting a sprint competition in more than 1 lakh schools across the state.

The competition will be held in three different age groups, 6-9 years, 10-13 years and 14-18 years. The students will participate at the school level and winners from the school level will move to taluka level, district level and then the final state level which will be conducted on March 8 at Balewadi sports complex, Pune. The winners of the state-level contest will get special support for the Olympics.

Om Prakash Bakoria, Commissioner of Sports and Youth Services, Maharashtra, stated; “We are all set to hunt for the fastest girl in Maharashtra. It is great to see that more than 1 lakh schools are a part of this competition and are encouraging their students to be a part of the state-level competition.”

The campaign was initiated by Department of Sports and Youth Services of Maharashtra last month during the Khelo India Youth Games 2020.

Vishal Solanki, Education Commissioner said, “I am glad to be a part of this initiative. These kinds of competitions will create a conducive environment for girls at the school level. Parents should initiate their children to participate in physical education and stand up for such competitions. These kinds of workshops will help boost both physical and mental strength of girl students.”

Rishikesh Kumar, Founder & CEO, Xtraliving Pvt Ltd said: “We understand the importance of fitness and sports and this campaign will help us shine in 2024 and 2028 Olympics. Along with medal tally, we expect a major improvement in health. With increasing lifestyle diseases like diabetes, a campaign like “Go Girl Go” is the need of the hour.”
