Goa vet team to treat flood-affected cattle in Kolhapur

Panaji, Aug 17 (IANS) The Goa Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services department on Saturday, deputed nine officials including four veterinarians, to Maharashtra’s flood-affected Kolhapur district for treatment of cattle.

The order deputing the team was issued, following telephonic instructions from Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who on Saturday directed the deputation of officials from Goa.

“As per telephonic instructions received from the Chief Minister following officers are hereby deputed to Kolhapur to treat cattle in flood affected areas along with departmental vehicle…” the order issued by the state government’s department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services said.

In Kolhapur, 3,429 cows and buffaloes, 300 sheep/goats and 50 calves have been reported dead by the farmers due to floods.

Nearly four lakh people from Kolhapur and the adjoining district of Sangli were evacuated by rescue teams, after the region was flooded due to heavy rains over the last two weeks.
