Good Friday is one of the most important days of Holy Week, which begins on Palm Sunday and ends on Easter. Good Friday is to commemorate the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. For many Christian believers including Christians, Lutheran Church, Anglicans and Methodists, this day is a solemn reflection. Good Friday is also called Holy Friday, Great Friday and Black Friday.

Across the globe, it is a day of sorrow for the Christians as it is a time when they meditate on the suffering of Jesus Christ on the cross.

Good Friday takes place on Friday before Easter Sunday, so its date changes every year. As per the beliefs, Jesus sacrifices and crucify himself to save us from sins. Jesus was beaten and mocked by Roman soldiers and was crucified on Calvary mountain.

On this day, many Christians observe this day through prayer, and some Christians fast, attend the adoration and Holy Mass in Church and believers commemorate Good Friday by praying the station of the cross followed by the traditional kissing of the Cross and reciting prayers.

Good Friday is a time to remember the suffering and death of Jesus before the resurrection of Christ on Easter Sunday.

Here’s the reason why we should not say ‘Happy Good Friday’

This day is called “Good” because Jesus Christ did it to express love for humanity. He was mocked and crucified. He died for the sins of all mankind.

The verse from John 3:16 reads – For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.

Good Friday is a day of mourning, but it is called “Good” because of the deeds of Jesus Christ. And because it carries the word “Good”, you must not wish your Christian friends “Happy Good Friday” as it marks the culmination of God’s plan to save his people from sin.

Therefore, this day does not call for any celebration, hence it is a day of sorrow.
