Google Doodle makes it a point to make us remember the important pages from Indian history, that should not have needed a reminder, in the first place.

Keeping by it, Google Doodle marks its tribute to late lyricist Kaifi Azmi on his 101st birth anniversary, On January 14.

He has penned words of many famous poems and songs that we hum even today. Kaifi’s doodle is looking pristine wearing a white kurta, sporting salt, and pepper hair, singing into a mic. Maybe he is reciting his favorite poem.

Check out the doodle:

Kaifi has won the National Film Award for Best Lyrics for the film, Saat Hindustani. Kaifi has also been awarded a Padma Shri, by the government. It is India’s fourth-highest civilian honor. There have been two roads named after him in India, one in Delhi and another in Hyderabad.

Also to mark a tribute to him, the government has also inaugurated a train named “Kaifiyat Express” which runs from his hometown Azamgarh to Old Delhi.

Kaifi Azmi’s children are Shabana Azmi and Baba Azmi. While Shabana is a critically acclaimed actress today, Baba is a renowned cinematographer.

Kaifi Azmi left for heavenly abode on May 10, 2002, at the age of 83. He will always be remembered for his work in life.
