Gorakhpur tragedy: Nine more children die in BRD Medical College, toll reaches 105

Tragdey continues to envelop Gorakhpur’s BRD Medical College as nine more children were reported dead in the last 24 hours between Thursday and Friday. The toll has gone up to 105 since the 10 August tragedy.

Dr PK Singh of the medical college confirmed the deaths, while briefing the media in his office.

Among these nine deaths, five were reported from the neonatal ward, two from encephalitis ward and two from the general paediatric ward.

Singh said that besides the encephalitis ward, deaths were reported from other wards.

“Most of the children, including the newborn, are brought here in a critical condition,” he said.

Responding to a query, he said that the hospital administration was sending data on the deaths to the government.

Earlier, director general, medical education, Dr KK Gupta, held a meeting with the principal.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister, Yogi Adityanath, visited the hospital to take stock of the situation. Also, administrative officials visited the medical college. A stage was also set up for the CM’s programme.
