Environmental activist Piyush Sethia was allegedly beaten up in police custody after being denied bail on July 14 citing previous cases which also includes sedition.
Sethia was arrested on July 8 by police as he protested against ongoing construction of the Mulvadi bridge in Salem.
According to a LiveMint report, Piyush Sethia had chained himself to a road roller at the construction site opposing the construction of the flyover which is adhering without land acquisition procedure.
However, the concerned officials claim that the land acquisition notice has been sent to the land owners.
Sethia, known as the ‘Green warrior’ of Salem has restored many lakes in the city. Since the news broke, there is an outburst among activists condemning Tamil Nadu police for custodial violence.
Piyush Sethia has been charged with criminal intimidation under section 506 (2) which is a non-billable offence.
