Gujarat: Congress MLA Jawahar Chavda resigns, likely to join BJP

Gandhinagar: Senior Gujarat Congress legislator and mining and education baron Jawahar Chavda resigns as MLA. He is a 4 time MLA from Manavadar. He is likely to join BJP soon.

After Kunvarji Bavaliya and Asha Patel, Jawahar Chavda is the third Congress MLA to resign from the current Gujarat Legislative Assembly. Congress’s strength in Assembly has now reduced to 73. He may contest from Junagadh Lok Sabha.

The news comes only a day after speculations rose of that the Congress MLA Alpesh Thakor may join Bharatiya Janata Party soon. Along with Alpesh, many other Congress MLAs have been expected to switch over to the BJP. It has being reported that Alpesh could be made a minister directly in the BJP government.

It is noteworthy Thakor had accused the party of sidelining him only a few days ago. He had accused that the Congress is ignoring him and also his community. Though reports are surfacing that he is soon to join the BJP, Alpesh is refusing of any developments. The ruling party could have a cabinet meeting this evening.

While on the other side, Patidar leader Hardik Patel is likely to join the Congress on March 12, ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and will contest the elections from Jamnagar constituency in Gujarat.

Patel, who led the agitation demanding reservation for the Patidar community, will join the Congress in the presence of party chief Rahul Gandhi.
