Shivanand Jha, Directorate General of Police (DGP), Gujarat said, “On this 3rd day of the lockdown, the law and order situation is improving gradually and we will be taking stricter action from now on. So far we have arrested 2,205 persons for violating law and order. 343 persons have been arrested for violation of the CrPC clause 144 gathering of four more people at one place.”

“Besides, 272 persons were found to be violating the home quarantine rules. We have detained 227 vehicles. All the highways are locked, but we cannot reach the remote villages. So we appeal to the sarpanches, leaders of such villages to help us maintain the law and order situation in their villages and not allow outside people, unnecessary persons in their villages,” said the DGP.

“Due to staff crunch, we are also mulling to call on duty, the suspended and retired police personnel to maintain law and order. We are also utilising modern technology with the help of drones for maintaining law and order in the state,” added Jha.
