Guru Purnima is the first full moon after the summer solstice in the month of Ashadha (July-August). It is celebrated annually on the birth anniversary of Ved Vyasa. The festival falls on July 5 this year and will be celebrated in India, Nepal, and Bhutan by the Hindus, Jains, and Buddhists.
The Purnima tithi will start at 11:33 am on July 4 and will end at 10:13 am on July 5. The day is observed to acknowledge the hard work sacrifice and dedication of gurus or teachers in educating the child. According to the Yogic culture, Lord Shiva is believed to be the first Guru or Yogi, who imparted the knowledge of Yoga to the Saptarishis (the seven sages).
The Prime Minister of India, on Saturday, took to Twitter and wished the nation on the occasion of Guru Purnima. The tweet read, “Let me begin by conveying my greetings on Ashadha Poornima. It is also known as Guru Purnima. This is a day to remember our Gurus, who gave us knowledge. In that spirit, we pay homage to Lord Buddha: PM@narendramodi addressing the Dharma Chakra Diwas function”
