Every year on August 15, Independence Day is observed to celebrate freedom from British rule after years of slavery. The day marks the end of British rule and the beginning of free and independent India.

The president delivers the “Address to the Nation” on the eve of Independence Day. Also, the prime minister of India hoists the flag and holds a speech at the Red Fort in Old Delhi.
