Popularly known as Utkal Divas or Utakala Dibasha, Odisha Foundation Day is observed on April 1 every year. In 1936, it was the first state that was formed on linguistic basis. Earlier, it was the part of Bihar.
Odisha is the 8th largest state situated on the Bay of Bengal. Cuttack was the capital of Odisha before India became independent in 1947. Today, the capital city Bhubaneswar is home to hundreds of temples, especially the intricately-carved Mukteshvara.
Orissa was changed to Odisha in late 2011 officially. Chilika Lake is a famous brackish water lagoon, that spreads over the Puri, Khurda, and Ganjam districts of Odisha state on the eastern coast of India.
