P. T. Thomas MLA has alleged the Kerala govt of doing a severe lapse in quarantining the health workers who were on duty at the Nedumbassery airport.

He issues statements to media saying health workers who were on duty from March 19 to the day the airport was closed, were asked to undergo quarantine only when one of them was tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, a lot of doctors had already started continuing their work at other hospitals, said P. T. Thomas in a letter sent to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in this regard.

From various hospitals, a lot of doctors were posted on duty at the Nedumbasssery airport for screening the passengers. They had to return back to their previous work once their duty was done and when the airport was closed on March 23, 24 and not quarantined.

He says the govt has done a serious lapse, the letter said.

The workers were asked to undergo quarantine only on March 29, one week after they resumed their duties.

Some of the doctors who were on duty at the airport even conducted surgeries at general hospitals.

Later when two health workers tested positive for COVID-19, they were instructed to undergo quarantine. This is a serious lapse that should not have occurred, Thomas added.

“You didn’t mention any of these in any press meet. After ten days, their route maps haven’t been released. This is very saddening for everyone who is eagerly listening to you press meets,” he further said in the letter.

Furthering his allegations, Thomas also remarked that on March 28 a COVID-19 patient was sent from Thiruvananthapuram general hospital to the medical college without any precautions along with his bystanders.

However, P. T. Thomas MLA also congratulated the efforts the central and state governments are taking to contain coronavirus.
