Water Chestnuts are a combination of lots of minerals, vitamins, starch, fiber, and phenolic compounds. Water chestnut are also known as singhara in Hindi and it is believed that singhara is a native fruit of Southeast Asia, China, Australia, Africa, and India. For many people, it is one of the favourite fruit to eat in the winter season which grows underwater.

Despite calling water chestnuts it is not at all nuts however, it comes under a fruit family. It can be either eaten raw or boiled, therefore, it has a sweet and crunchy taste. Raw one consists of 74 per cent of water with no fat content and low calories.

It is also used as a stuffing in dishes too. Water chestnuts are linked with various health benefits and one of them is weight loss.

Water chestnuts for weight loss

Fibre is one of the best dietary content for weight loss and water chestnuts are high in fibre and can easily use to reduce weight. It also contains high amounts of fibre, potassium, manganese, copper, vitamin B6 and riboflavin.

According to the USDA  (United States Department of Agriculture) nutrition database, 100-grams of singhara contains 4 grams of fibre, 3 grams of protein and 23.9 grams of carbs. The calorie from singhara comes from good carbs which are good for health.

Adding plenty of fibre to your diet can lead to better bowel movements, reduce blood cholesterol levels, regulate blood sugar levels and keep your gut healthy.

Moreover, singhara is usually low in calories and they are classified as a high-volume food, which contains either a lot of water or air. It is high-volume food that can stop your unwanted hunger and all these can ultimately result in weight loss.

Eventually, it is important for a person to follow a healthy diet along with a little physical exercise to stay fit.
