District administration has not only failed to ensure doorstep services of essential items but the price of vegetables has soared in the absence of any checks.

The country is currently witnessing lockdown due to the pandemic coronavirus but people in rural areas of Solan district failed to maintain social-distancing or use masks while moving out to buy vegetables.

District administration has not only failed to ensure doorstep services of essential items but the price of vegetables has soared in the absence of any checks.

Vegetables like ladies finger are selling at Rs 100 per kg, while onion prices have soared at Rs 50, tomatoes at Rs 60,  potatoes at Rs 40 and availability of fruits was declining.

Traders say they were getting all commodities at higher rates in the Chandigarh markets where availability was also low.

A total of 229 suspected COVID-19 cases were investigated in which 222 samples have been found negative and 3 samples were positive, Himachal Pradesh Health Department said on Tuesday.

The total number of coronavirus cases in India climbed to 1397 on Tuesday after 146 new infections were reported in the past 24 hours across the country.

The death toll due to the COVID-19 rose to 35 while 123 cases were cured or discharged after treatment, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.
