JDU leader Prashant Kishor takes on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Citizenship Act and National Register of Citizens on Tuesday and asked to declare no implementation of CAA or NRC in Congress ruled states.

Taking to the micro-blogging site, political strategist Prashant Kishor said, “Thanks, Rahul Gandhi for joining citizens’ movement against CAA and NRC. But as you know beyond public protests we also need states to say no to NRC to stop it. We hope you will impress upon the Congress to OFFICIALLY announce that there will be No NRC in the Congress-ruled states.”

The JD(U) leader’s statement comes a day after top Congress leadership, led by interim party president Sonia Gandhi, sat on a Satyagraha for Unity at Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial Rajghat in New Delhi on Monday.

Protests erupted in different parts of the country including Uttar Pradesh over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, which grants Indian citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists and Christians fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh and came to India on or before 31 December, 2014.

Restrictions under Section-144 of CrPC has also been imposed in various parts of the state due to the prevailing law and order situation.
