A shocking incident has come to the fore where a 23-year-old man was attacked on a busy street in broad daylight in Hyderabad and is battling for his life at a private hospital in the city, after his in-laws allegedly stabbed him.
Preliminary inputs reveal that the two men who charged at the victim were his brothers-in-law, Mehmood Ali and Ahmed Ali. However, the two are yet to be taken into police custody.
The police said that the victim, identified as Imtiaz, had been in a relationship with a woman, Fatima, for many years. The two had been seeing each other romantically for a number of years and decided to get hitched despite stiff opposition from the girl’s family. The woman ran away from her house on June 5 and they married on June 6 in the city, against the wishes of her parents.
Fatima’s father approached the couple and while pretending to accept Imtiaz as his son-in-law, asked them to take his blessings in person.
Imtiaz went to meet Fatima’s father when her two brothers attacked him with a knife in full public view. The top cop said that Hyderabad Police have ruled out the attack as an honour killing incident but are probing the case from all possible angles.
