A powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and a detonator were seized from three persons in Manipur’s Imphal West district on Monday.
Imphal West district superintendent of police (SP) K Meghachandra said that they were basically acting on a tip-off, Manipur police commandos conducted checking of vehicles on the Moreh-Imphal highway and seized explosives.
They found eight 1.5 volt batteries, which are used to make detonators, from a vehicle.
There are reports floating around of Police arresting two persons who brought the explosives in the vehicle. The SP said the two persons had received the consignment from a cadre of banned outfit PREPAK in Myanmar”s border town Tamu and were delivering them to a person in Imphal’s Telipati area.
Based on their confession, another man was arrested and an IED, a detonator, a remote control, two 9 volt batteries, ammunition and a mobile phone was seized from his possession.
SP Meghachandra said they planned to carry out a blast at Telipati area where security personnel are often deployed.
It also needs to be mentioned here that, on January 23 2020, a powerful explosion rocked Manipur’s Imphal West district on Thursday leaving a minor girl injured. The injured girl was rushed to a hospital.
During that time the police stated, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blew off in front of a clothes shop at the Lalambung Makong area on RIMS road at around 4.55 am on Thursday.
