New Delhi, Jan 20 (IANS) IET India has released findings from a new report that captures the perspectives from mid-level and entry-level of the Indian workforce regarding the uncertainties post COVID-19.
A total of 789 voices from the ground across India contributed to the study which shows that work will undergo a transformation in the way it has been so far imagined. Hub and spoke offices will evolve, flexible ways of working and associated search for talent fulfilment will be the new norm and non-monetary rewards will be appreciated. Mental health dialogues will gain prominence – both on and off workplaces and building resilience will be the prime focus for India Inc.
Mobility is set to become more personal, based on trust, control and convenience as about 92 per cent prefer using their own vehicle instead of relying on shared mobility solutions. This presents opportunities to EV and associated industries. Future technologies emerged as a saviour during this pandemic. Tech will reimagine leasing, augmented spaces, rewards, learning and networking.
Some of the key findings that stand out:
· 35 per cent of young professionals don’t want to continue working from home while 50 per cent of people in the 30-50 years category would like to do so.
· 77 per cent respondents feel that it is easy to manage teams virtually however 74 per cent feel that the bonding/relationship that they shared with their colleagues has deteriorated.
· 74 per cent feel that training new employees virtually is a challenge.
· 63 per cent feel career growth will be stunted in the future and 58 per cent feel job security is a thing of the past.
Shekhar Sanyal, Director and Country Head, IET India, said: “The report ‘Voices from the ground’ is a result of a deep dive to understand the unheard perspectives from the Indian workforce. This is raw unadulterated finding without expert bias or opinions. We believe that the world we look forward to, starting from 2021 is going to be very different from the one we imagined, and this report will serve as an anchor of reality for business leaders as they start rebuilding in the post pandemic world.”
The study hints that the post-pandemic world will be a matter-of-fact and utilitarian one powered by technology, where individuals will be in charge of their own skills, seeking newer and more meaningful ways to gain social capital, ready to do what it takes to surmount their fears spurred by the uncertain job market.
The common thread that runs through is technology – EV adoption, EV infrastructure, augmented public transports, on-demand offices, and talent, personalised learning and rewards are all part of what will take off in 2021. The possibilities are limitless and these avenues are what we want to focus on, as we stand on the precipice of a new world.
