IIT Bombay changes GATE 2021 exam pattern, registration process to start on September 14 @ gate.iitb.ac.in

IIT Bombay has released the brochure of GATE 2021 on August 7 at the official website gate.iitb.ac.in that includes various changes such as- addition and removal of some exam cities.

Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Bombay has launched a new website for the GATE 2021 exam and also released the registration date for the exam and the exam dates. In line with this, IIT Bombay has released the brochure of GATE 2021 on August 7 at the official website gate.iitb.ac.in that includes various changes such as- addition and removal of some exam cities.

Earlier, changes related to the eligibility criteria relaxation and addition of exam papers of GATE 2021 have been announced.

The new website was launched by Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director, IIT Bombay on August 7.

Further, the interested candidates can apply for the registration can visit the official site of IIT B on gate.iitb.ac.in. The registration process will start on September 14 and will conclude on September 30, 2020. The application form can be submitted with late fees until October 7, 2020.

GATE 2021 Exam: Important Dates

Opening date of application September 14, 2020
Closing date of application September 30, 2020
Submission of application form with late fees October 7, 2020
Editing facility for the submitted application forms November 13, 2020
Download of admit card January 8, 2021
Date of Exam February 5 to February 14, 2021

Changes in GATE 2021 exam pattern:

For 2021 GATE exam, the aspirants will have to also answer Multiple Select Questions. This third type of questions has been added to the exam pattern where earlier only Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Numerical Answer Type Questions (NATs) existed.

This year two new subjects have been added. ES (Environmental Science and Engineering) and XH (Humanities and Social Sciences) in Economics / English / Linguistics / Philosophy / Psychology / Sociology. All Test Papers of GATE 2021 will be entirely objective type.

The division of marks will be as follows:

  • Subject Questions – 72 Marks
  • General Aptitude – 15 Marks
  • Engineering Mathematics – 13 Marks

Changes in exam cities:

A few exam cities have been added for GATE 2021- Jhansi (IIT Kanpur), Dhenkanal (IIT Kharagpur), Chandrapur (IIT Bombay) and Muzzaffarnagar (IIT Roorkee).

While Pala (IIT Madras) has been cut down from the list. There is a total of 195 Indian exam cities and 5 abroad. However, due to the horrifying circumstance of COVID-19, there are chances of international cities being dropped.

GATE 2021 will be conducted from February 5 to 7 and 12 to 14 as a computer-based test. Registrations for GATE 2021 will begin from September 14, 2020.

GATE results are used by students for M.Tech admissions and PSU recruitment.

GATE 2021 scorecard will be valid for three years after the announcement of the result. In the official notice, it has been meantioned that the exam dates may change depending on the COVID19 situation.
