There are many important days and events which happen during April every year. These days have both national(India) and International value.

April is the fourth month of the year in the Gregorian calendar, the fifth in the early Julian, the first of four months to have a length of 30 days, and the second of five months to have a length of fewer than 31 days.

Important Days and Events in April 2021: 

1st April- All fool’s day

April Fools’ Day—celebrated on April 1 each year—has been celebrated for several centuries by different cultures, though its exact origins remain a mystery. April Fools’ Day traditions include playing hoaxes or practical jokes on others, often yelling “April Fools!” at the end to clue in the subject of the April Fools’ Day prank.

2nd April- Good Friday

Good Friday is a Christian holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary. It is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover.

4th April-Easter

Easter, also called Resurrection Day and Pascha, is a Christian holiday celebrating Jesus Christ returning from the dead. Christians believe that it is the holiest day in the year. Some people who are not Christians celebrate it as a cultural holiday.

4th April- International day of Mine awareness

On 8 December 2005, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly declared that April 4 of each year would be officially proclaimed and observed as International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action. It was first observed on April 4, 2006.

5th April- National maritime day

The National Maritime Day was first celebrated on April 5, 1964. The saga of India shipping first started on April 5, 1919, when the SS Loyalty, the first ship of The Scindia Steam Navigation Company Ltd travelled from Mumbai to the United Kingdom (London).

7th April- World health day

In 1948, the WHO held the First World Health Assembly. The Assembly decided to celebrate 7 April of each year, with effect from 1950, as World Health Day.

10h April- World Homeopathy Day

This day is celebrated to honor the birth of the father of the Homeopathy system of medicines Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. Born in Paris, France, he was a German physician, who was an acclaimed scientist, a great scholar, and linguist.

13th April- Jallianwala Bagh Massacre

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre, also known as the Amritsar massacre, took place on 13 April 1919, when Acting Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer ordered troops of the British Indian Army to fire their rifles into a crowd of unarmed Indian civilians in Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar, Punjab, killing at least 379 people and injuring over 1,200 other people.

14th April- BR Ambedkar Day

B.R. Ambedkar, popularly known as Babasaheb Ambedkar, was an economist, politician, and social reformer who fought for the rights of the Dalit community who were considered as untouchables back in the day (they are still considered untouchables in certain parts of the country). To honor his contribution and service to the country, his birthday is celebrated every year on the 14th of April.

17th April- World Hemophilia Day

(WHD) is celebrated on April 17 each year to raise awareness about hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders. It is an initiative of the ‘World Federation of Haemophilia’.

18th April- World Heritage Day

World Heritage Day is celebrated every year on the 18th of April. It was designated in 1983 by the General Assembly of UNESCO to promote awareness about the diversity of heritage and their vulnerability. The observation was proposed by ICOMOS or International Council on Monuments and Sites.

22nd April- World Earth Day

Earth Day Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by EARTHDAY.ORG (formerly Earth Day Network) including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries.

25th April- World Malaria Day

World Malaria Day (WMD) is an international observance commemorated every year on 25 April and recognizes global efforts to control malaria. Globally, 3.3 billion people in 106 countries are at risk of malaria.

24th April- World Veterinary Day

This year (2021), World Veterinary Day takes place on Saturday, April 24th. This year’s theme is The Veterinarian Response to the Covid-19 Crisis. Veterinary professionals were quite literally thrown into the fire when having to deal with the pandemic.

28th April- World safety and health at work

The UN, ILO, and other organizations, communities, individuals, and government bodies with an interest in workplace health and safety unite on or around April 28 to promote an international campaign known as World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
