COVID-19 cases in India have crossed the 31 lakh-mark while over 58,000 people have died so far even as the country heads towards Unlock 4 from September 1. The government is planning to resume the Metro train services that have remained suspended since March. However, schools and colleges may not reopen anytime soon, even in Unlock 4.

Government sources have also said that bars, which were so far not allowed to reopen, may be permitted to sell liquor over the counter for takeaway. Unlock 3, which saw the resumption of domestic flight and train movement, is nearing an end on August 31. The Unlock 4 guidelines are expected to be issued later this week.

India now has 7,04,348 active coronavirus cases while the number of recovered cases has gone up to 24,04,585 across the country.

The level of the Yamuna river in Delhi rose closer to the danger mark after water was released from the Hathnikund Barrage at Yamunanagar in Haryana. The Delhi government said it is prepared to deal with any flood-like situation.

“We have a flood-control system ready and it will be activated when the situation demands,” Satyendra Jain, Delhi water, and health minister said.

A journalist, Ratan Singh was chased and shot dead by three men in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district last night allegedly over a property dispute, said police. All accused have been arrested.

One person has died and 25 are still feared trapped under the debris after a residential building collapsed in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Monday evening. Sixty people have been rescued, officials said this morning. The rescue operation has been going on for more than 12 hours.

Coronavirus: Recovery rate rises to 75.92%, more than 100% growth in 25 days
