6:05 PM| Tarun Gogoi, former chief minister of Assam, passed away on Monday after his health condition deteriorated. He was 86. Gogoi was admitted to Gauhati Medical College Hospital in Guwahati. He had tested positive for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) on August 25 and had spent two months in hospital.


6:00 PM| Only travellers who test negative for Covid will be allowed to enter Maharashtra from Delhi NCR, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Goa, the state said today, announcing a set of new rules. This will cover passengers in both flights and trains, who have to show the negative test results before boarding.


4:45 PM| All educational institutions in Himachal Pradesh will remain shut till December 31. Online classes will begin from November 26.


2:25 PM| A magistrate’s court today granted bail to comedian Bharti Singh and her  husband, Haarsh Limbachiyaa, who were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Saturday.


1:45 PM| The controversial section included in the Kerala Police Act, which gives sweeping powers to the police to clamp down on ‘defamatory’ or ‘offensive’ posts, will not stand the scrutiny of court. The controversial new section 118A of the Kerala Police Act will be kept in abeyance, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in a statement issued on Monday. The introduction of the Section through an ordinance had created a controversy with all quarters of people, including supporters of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government, criticising it for being unconstitutional.

12:25 PM| A Mumbai court is likely to hear the bail pleas of comedian Bharti Singh and her husband Harsh Limbachiya on Monday, a day after the duo were sent to judicial custody till December 4 in a drug-related cases. However, it may get postponed as the Narcotics Control Bureau will also file its replies on the bail pleas. “As I am busy with other cases today, we will request for some other date of argument,” Special public prosecutor Atul Sarpande said to ANI.


11:15 AM| The Delhi government on Monday withdrew its order to shut two markets in Punjabi Bagh and Nangloi area of West Delhi districts for flouting various coronavirus (Covid-19) guidelines including on social distancing and face masks. The markets were to remain shut till November 30, as per an order issued by the the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).


10:25 AM| Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Monday inaugurate the multi-storeyed flats for Members of Parliament at 11 am via video conferencing. According to an official release, these flats are located at Dr B D Marg in New Delhi. Eight old bungalows, which were more than 80 years old, have been redeveloped to construct 76 flats.


Odisha Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal’s wife Susheela Devi passed away at a private hospital last night. The First Lady of the State, Governor Lal, and four of their family members had tested positive for COVID-19 on November 1 and were undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital city.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed deep grief over the demise of Susheela Devi. Describing her as a very warm and pious person, Patnaik conveyed his deep sympathy to the Governor and other members of the bereaved family.

Today is the 245th day since India implemented a nationwide lockdown to help curb the novel coronavirus pandemic. So far, India has recorded 91,39,865 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 1,33,738 deaths. A total of 85,62,641 people have recuperated from COVID-19 so far.

There are 4,43,486 active cases in the country as of date, which comprises 4.85 percent of the total caseload, the data stated. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka have reported the highest number of cases. However, infections are rising rapidly in states like Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. India’s recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 93.69 percent. Globally, more than 5.85 crore people have been infected by the coronavirus and 13.86 lakh have died so far.
