4:15 PM| Rahul Gandhi has been detained by Uttar Pradesh police while he was on his way to meet the Hathras gangrape victim’s family. Gandhi asked the police why he was being detained. “I want to walk to Hathras alone. Please tell me under which section you are arresting me,” he asked the police. UP Police told him that he was being arrested under IPC Section 188 for violation of law and order.

The Gandhis were on their way to meet the family of the 19-year-old Dalit woman who died after being gang-raped and tortured by four upper-caste men in the Uttar Pradesh district.


 

12:15 PM| The Supreme Court has dismissed a batch of petitions filed by many retired bureaucrats led by KP Fabian, for a commission of inquiry into alleged gross mismanagement of the coronavirus pandemic.


While Bombay High Court reserved bail pleas of Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty in a drug case filed by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Forensics team submitted its report to the CBI.

AIIMS report has questioned the absence of the timing of death in the autopsy report and pointed towards the dimly-lit post mortem room at Cooper Hospital, sources said, according to IANS.

New Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital has submitted a copy of the post mortem report of the Hathras gangrape victim who died on Tuesday. According to the report, “ligature mark on the neck is consistent with attempted strangulation, this but did not contribute to the death in this case”. As per hospital records, the cause of death will be ascertained through the viscera report.

A 22-year-old Dalit woman died after being allegedly raped by two men in UP’s Balrampur district, an incident that comes amid nationwide outrage over the Hathras gang-rape case. Balrampur Superintendent of Police Dev Ranjan Verma, quoting the victim’s family, said the woman, who worked with a private firm, returned home in a serious condition on Tuesday.

India has so far registered of 63 lakh coronavirus cases with over 51 lakh recoveries. There are less than 10 lakh active cases in India, according to the health ministry’s website. The death toll from Covid-19 in India currently stands at 97,497.

Maharashtra, the worst-affected state, is also witnessing the highest number of recoveries, deaths and daily cases. The country has one of the lowest fatality rates and the highest recovery rates in the world, according to the health ministry.
