In an anticipated match, India beat Pakistan by 124 runs to win their first ICC Champions Trophy 2017 match in Birmingham on Sunday at Edgbaston.

“We took the momentum that we gained from the practice games into this game. Skill wise we were really very good,” said captain Kohli after the rain interrupted match.

The target of the match was revised to 289 in 41 overs, however, India kicked its defence. The Man of the Match went to Yuvraj Singh for a blistering knock of 53 off just 32 deliveries. Rohit Sharma top-scored for India with 119-ball 91-run knock while skipper Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 81 off 68 balls. With the ball, Umesh Yadav-led from the front scalping three wickets while Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja took two apiece. While Hardik Pandya scored three sixes in his six-ball 20 runs knock.

Pakistan scored 164/9 for 33.4 overs. With a revised target of 324 in 48 overs, Pakistan openers Azhar Ali and Ahmed Shehzad started in a cautious manner before rain interrupted play for the third time in the match. After a short delay, the target was revised once again with Pakistan needing 289 in 41 overs.
