IndiGo, a low-cost airline, has just made all the web check-ins chargeable. The carrier has said that the check-ins done at the airport will remain free.
The cost of online seat selection will cost one between Rs 100 and Rs 800 on the basis of one’s requirement.
Various factors such as rising fuel prices, weakening of the currency have resulted in Indigo to take this decision. Passengers were earlier required to lose some purse if they were to select a window-facing seat or a seat with the extra leg room.
As per our revised policy, all seats will be chargeable for web check-in. Alternatively, you may check-in at the airport for free. Seats will be assigned as per the availability. ~Prabh

Apparently IndiGo had brought in the policy on November 14th.
Update: Ministry of Civil Aviation has taken the cognizance of the situation and have said to review the fees.
MoCA has noted that airlines are now charging for web check-in for all seats. We are reviewing these fees to see whether they fall within the unbundled pricing framework.
