New Delhi, Feb 25 (IANS) On a day US President Donald Trump gave a huge push to Indo-US relations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said bilateral ties between the two nations form a “comprehensive global strategic partnership” and they are “people-driven and people-centric”.

“President Trump and I have met five times over the last eight months. We are elevating our relationship to comprehensive global strategic partnership level. We are increasing our cooperation in homeland security. We have decided to increase our efforts to fight terror to combat organised crime, drugs, narcotics cooperation will be stepped up,” Modi said.

Modi said,”The unprecedented and historic welcome given to President Trump in India will be long remembered.” He added that “the relations between the two countries are not merely confined to governments but are people-driven.”

Saying the most important foundation of the special relationship between India and the US is “people-to-people contacts”, Modi said professionals, students, and the Indian diaspora in the US have made a major contribution in this and that the two commerce ministers have had positive talks on trade.

Calling the last two days in India as “amazing”, President Trump nodded in agreement.
