Interim bail to Lalu Yadav in IRCTC scam case

New Delhi: In a major relief to Rashtriya Janata Dal Chief, Delhi’s Patiala House Court has granted interim bail to Lalu Prasad Yadav in IRCTC scam case. He appeared before the court via video conferencing. Next date of hearing, in this case, will happen on January 19.

Former Bihar’s Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo was directed to appear before the court via video conferencing in connection with two cases related to Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) scam case.

The order was passed by the court after it was informed that the accused won’t be able to appear before the court in the case filed by Enforcement Directorate and Central Bureau of Investigation, due to the poor health condition.

The Patiala House court was hearing the case related to alleged irregularities in the allotment of contracts of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corp (IRCTC) in Patna district was allegedly given as a bribe.

The case relates to alleged irregularities in the allotment of contracts of two IRCTC hotels in Ranchi and Puri in 2006 to a private firm involving a bribe in the form of a three-acre commercial plot at a prime location in Patna district.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in April filed the charge sheet in the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) hotels maintenance contract case against 12 people and two companies.

Among those named in the charge sheet were Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad, his wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, his son and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, former Managing Director of IRCTC P.K. Goel, Sujata Hotels directors Vinay and Vijay Kochhar, Sarala Gupta — wife of Prem Chand Gupta, RJD MP.

In the meanwhile, Lalu Yadav who is admitted in Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) is undergoing treatment for various ailments.

The CBI and ED were probing the case and had named Lalu Yadav, his wife and former CM of Bihar Rabri Devi, their son and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Bihar Assembly Tejaswi Yadav.

Former Bihar chief minister and Lalu Yadav’s wife Rabari Devi and her son Tejaswi Yadav has already got bail in the IRCTC case.

The CBI charge sheet also named Additional Member of the Railway Board B.K. Agarwal, who was the Group General Manager (GGM) of the IRCTC.

The central probe agency also named former GGM of IRCTC V.K. Asthana, R.K. Gogia, then GGM (company secretary) of IRCTC, Ramesh Saxena — then IRCTC Director, and Sujata Hotels Pvt Ltd.
