International Day of Democracy 2020: International Day of Democracy is celebrated on September 15 every year to raise awareness about democracy. This day helps people around the world to learn and review democracy in the world.

We are all aware of the term democracy which means for the people, by the people, and of the people but we sometimes ignore how democracy gives us human rights and protections. It is the bridge between the political class and civil society and gives us the responsibility to rule.

International Day of Democracy 2019 theme:

The theme of the International Day of Democracy in 2019 was Participation. In a democratic state, citizens can make or break the government as it is their right. The government is formed after voting and every citizen should participate in their better future. People should be aware of their rights otherwise there will be too much political participation.

History and Significance of International Day of Democracy

On November 8, 2007, the UN General Assembly announced 15 September as International Day of Democracy and since then it is celebrated annually. The day helps people to come out, celebrate, and promote democracy across the globe.

The significance of the International Day of Democracy is to provide an opportunity to people to participate in democracy and urges the government to respect the rights of people. Sustainable development of democracy is important which should be done by citizens and government both for a peaceful future.
