A woman is seen as the Devi (goddess) or a sex object in this country but when it comes to the choices of women they are always put behind the pre-defined grid. A women’s choice was never heard before but with the changing time, the change has evolved and the choices of women are not only in getting married but it comes to whom they want to marry? Do they really want a relationship? Or being friends with benefits is fine for them.

As time evolved the emergence of female leaders, scientists, female leading actor are out there in large numbers facing and fighting the usual stereotype but after all of it are they able to represent their choices in terms of dating? Are the women in India comfortable with terms like hookup culture? And we are here to openly talk about What women in India want.

In the woke time, there are women who do not believe marriage is mandatory for two people in love. The women in India are now vocal about their choices and are coming forward to express it. In the 21st century India, romance has evolved to be equal and inclusive. The onset of changing mindsets, greater access to smartphones and improved financial independence are the main factors.

The Indian Cinemas have now taken the step forward to show the desires of women. On one hand, we have Lipstick Under My Burkha, the film which talks about the little freedom which women seek, the film shows the character of four women of different age groups who search for their little freedom in the aspect of their life and on the other, the scene of Swara Bhaskar masturbating in the film Veere Di Wedding. Times are changing and now the art culture is open about discussing the needs and wants of women in this country. These movies are torchbearers for women who think in the same direction and for women who want to speak up about the same. Unfortunately, when we look towards the grass root level we see the class of women who are still fighting with the patriarchal norms set by society and do not have the freedom to make choices.

The evolving age of dating apps like Tinder/ Bumble/ OK Cupid has made things easier for women as they have given the right to look for what kind of man/ woman they are looking for, it comes with features of selecting age group, distance, and whatnot. With the concept of dating apps being accepted in India, women are now more open to dating and relationship opportunities with the kind of men they want to be with. Dating apps have not only given women the right to choose but have also helped them with independence in decision making. Dating platforms have made women more confident in seeking for their one true love/one-night-stand /whatever they want. The experimentation or curiosity just a few years ago on dating apps has now become a socially acceptable avenue for finding relationships. The women of this country are now expressing their concrete choices to regenerate the concept of the New Woman of India.
