In the last three years I'll have had almost two years off: David Warner

David Warner has been reinstated as Sunrisers Hyderabad captain ahead of IPL 2020. The 33-year-old Australian opener, who gave the team its victory in 2016 missed the game due to him attending Sandpapergatesaga in 2018.

Warner has been alongside the IPL action for quite some time but the franchise played its bets on Kane Williamson as their first-choice captain with Bhuvneshwar Kumar filling the role as its deputy in IPL 2018 under the New Zealand skipper.

Warner stated in a statement told media, ” I’m thrilled to be provided with the role of captaincy for the upcoming IPL season 2020,”

Warner has been the best in Sunrisers Hyderabad with his bat since 2014.

“I’m extremely grateful to be provided with the opportunity to lead the team once again.”

While adding to his statement he says, “I will thank Kane and Bhuvi for doing a fantastic job in leading the team. I’ll be needing a lot of support from you guys. I would even like to express sincere thanks to the management for providing me with the opportunity.”

Warner has scored a gigantic 528 runs in 14 matches with a strike rate of 140.80.

Warner was then named captain for the following year, a role that, if any, only accentuated his batting numbers.

His score record is exceptional in IPL, Warner has scored this set of numbers with his bat 562, 848, 642 and 692 runs – finishing with the Orange Cap in 2015, 2017 and 2019 seasons.

Warner is fourth in the list of the tournament’s all-time run-getters, behind the Indian trio of Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma.

His successful partnership with compatriot Tom Moody, Warner will now pair up with a new head coach and former IPL winner with Kolkata Knight Riders, Trevor Bayliss, for the 2020 season. Sunrisers Hyderabad opens their campaign at home against defending champions Mumbai Indians on April 1.
