Jhanharpur is one of the five constituencies in Bihar to go on polls in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2019. Janta Dal United Ram Preet Mandal is National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate who will tussle against Rashtriya Janata Dal’s Gulab Yadav.

The constituency is situated in northern Bihar, close to the Nepal borders in the north, adjacent to Madhubani on the west and Supaul to the east. 

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the Jhanjharpur constituency was won by Birendra Kumar Choudhary of the BJP, he defeated the then sitting Member of Parliament & Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Mangani Lal Mandal.

The voting for Bihar’s 40 Parliamentary seats will take place in seven phases beginning April 11. The last phase will be held on May 19.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), The parliamentary constituency number of Jhanjharpur is 7. The total number of electorates in the Jhanjharpur Lok Sabha Constituency according to Election Commission of India 2009 data are 1,418,977 of which 757,310 are males and 661,667 are females.

Jhanjharpur Lok Sabha constituency comprises the following six Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments: Khajauli, Babubarhi, Rajnagar, Jhanjharpur, Phulparas, Laukaha.

In Phase III of the voting for the 17th Lok Sabha, elections will take place in 115 Lok Sabha constituencies across 14 states. Voting for this phase will take place on April 23. While, like all the other phases, counting will take place in May 23.

Along with Lok Sabha Elections, voting will also take place for the third phase of Odisha Assembly Elections 2019. The turnout in the last general election in 2014 was more than 66%, up from 45% in 1951 when the first election was held.
