Birsa Munda was an Indian freedom fighter, religious leader, and folk hero from the Munda Tribe of the Chhota Nagpur Plateau area. Born in 1875 in present-day Jharkhand, Munda had challenged the British rule and is credited with mobilising tribals against the empire. He died in British custody at the young age of 25 years.

On the occasion of Birsa Munda Jayanti, Congress MLA from Jamtara, Dr Irfan Ansari has released a video.  In this video, he urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to construct a statue of Birsa Munda similar to the statue of Unity, Sardar Ballabh Bhai Patel.

The Congress MLA said, “The way Lord Birsa Munda revolted against the British government has been known as great history. He was martyred fighting the British. I would like to ask the Prime Minister of the country to make a magnificent statue in his honour. Today, on the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda Ji, there cannot be a big tribute to him. On his birthday, Jharkhand was formed on 15th November. Today is a historic day for the people of Jharkhand”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to tribal leader Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary on Sunday and said his contribution to the freedom movement and social harmony will always inspire the countrymen.

In a tweet, Modi said Munda was a true messiah for the poor and always fought for the deprived and disadvantaged sections of the society.
