Jharkhand DGP orders case to be registered against cop Harish Pathak who thrashed Dalit girl over affair

Jharkhand: Case to be registered against cop who thrashed Dalit girl for love affair

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday took to Twitter to take cognisance of a viral video shared by film director Avinash Das in which a police officer from the Sahibganj district’s Barhait police station was seen thrashing and abusing a young Dalit girl.

In the recent development, the Director-General of Police (DGP), MV Rao has ordered a case to be registered against the police officer, Harish Pathak.

The incident came to notice after the film director, Avinash Das posted a video on Twitter tagging Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren. He wrote, “Sahebganj is a district in Jharkhand. This is how Barheth police station in charge is dealing with a Dalit girl.@HemantSorenJMM Yes, you should see. The girl wants to do love marriage and the police station in-charge wants to crush her desire. This is embarrassing!”

Replying to the tweet CM Hemant Soren wrote, “This is a grossly inappropriate and shameful act that must not be tolerated,” tagging the DGP MV Rao.

The DGP replied to the tweet saying “Sir, the officer was sent to Police Lines and was suspended. DSP Barharwa was directed to enquire and submit the report by tomorrow evening. Further appropriate action will be taken on receipt of the report. Instructions for the security of the victim were issued.”

The girl was reportedly from the Dalit community and was at the police station in a case related to love marriage.
