Jharkhand: HC defers Lalu Prasad's bail plea hearing in a fodder scam case to Sept 11

The Jharkhand High Court on Friday deferred to September 11 the hearing of RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s bail petition in connection with a case related to the Rs 950-crore fodder scam, as the lawyer for the CBI, which is investigating the case, took ill. Lalu Prasad had requested for grant of bail in the case of illegal withdrawal in Chaibasa Treasury of fodder scam.

The plea states that Lalu has completed his half jail sentence. He has several health issues like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, chronic kidney disease, fatty liver, peritoneal infection, hyper-uremia, kidney stone, fatty hepatitis, prostate.

RJD supremo has been admitted to the Ranchi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) due to his health ailments. In the bail plea, Lalu Prasad has referred to the Supreme Court order stating that bail can be granted after half the sentence is completed.

For those uninitiated, Lalu Prasad has been sentenced to five years imprisonment by a special CBI court in connection with illegal withdrawal of Rs 37.7 crore and Rs 33.67 crore from Chaibasa Treasury. Both the punishments are going on simultaneously. Lalu Prasad is in jail from December 23, 2017, in the case.

Meanwhile, an FIR has been lodged against the hotel owner and manager Dushyant Kumar in Jharkhand for allegedly giving room to RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav at the hotel Capital Residency at Chutia police station in Ranchi.

Reportedly, Tej Pratap reached Ranchi to meet his father and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad.
