A junior doctor who is currently working in COVID ward at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi has accused a senior doctor of an attempt to rape.
According to the reports, the junior doctor is in Anaesthesia Department at the hospital. She was on duty in the COVID ward on Wednesday night with the senior doctor. As it was too late, he did not go home that night and asked the junior colleague whether he could stay in her room. The junior refused and arranged a room for the senior in the Paying Ward at the hospital.
Later, making an excuse for the problem in air conditioning, the senior called her in the room to take a look at the air conditioning where he attempted to rape on her arrival.

The victim has filed a complaint against the senior doctor at Bariatu Police Station.
Officer-in-charge of Bariatu police station, Sapan Mahta said, “The senior doctor has been booked under sections 376 (rape) and 511 (attempt to commit an offence) of the IPC. We have recorded the statement of the victim. Now, her statement will be recorded before a magistrate.”
A senior official at RIMS said the doctors who served in the COVID ward are sent to quarantine for 14 days as a preventive measure to reduce the spread of the virus. The senior doctor in question is right now quarantined at a city hotel.
This is not the first attempt to rape incident at RIMS. In 2014, A staff of Rajendra RIMS allegedly attempted to rape a patient’s 17-year-old sister. According to the victim, the incident took place when she went to dry her clothes on the terrace. An unidentified youth reached there and chased the boy and dragged the girl to a nearby room with the intentions to rape her.
